Access priority (authoritative server order)
- Teacher / admin / staff → always allowed
- Active temporary schoolwide override → allowed
- Class Access — enrolled device in an unlocked group → allowed
- Individual Access — active teacher-approved grant → allowed
- Enforcement OFF → normal Lantern access
- Outside scheduled school lock → normal Lantern access
- Otherwise during active enforcement → locked / Request Access
Individual Access

Pre-authorize a real student so they can log in on the Chromebook they will use. The grant binds to that browser after successful username and password. Request Access remains the fallback for unplanned exceptions.

Class Access

Unlock an enrolled classroom device group during the school lock window. Shared computers enrolled in that group are allowed on their next request — no logout required. Restricted Mode, when active, overrides Class and Individual Access for anyone not on the Restricted allowlist — unlocking a class does not bypass Restricted Mode.
Class Join Code

Optional phrase code for students to join a session on personal devices. This does not bypass school-time enforcement — use group unlock above for enrolled classroom computers.

Schoolwide Access

Temporarily open Lantern for all students by suspending the school lock schoolwide. Staff remain allowed either way. Every override has an explicit end time — there is no “open forever.” Admin only.
Device Enrollment
